Speaker 1
Welcome to the sisterhood, Your soul showed up for a reason.
Speaker 2
Welcome back Soul Fire sisters.
Oh my goodness, we have missed you.
Season 1 felt like lighting a match together, didn’t it Mary?
And now season 2 we are throwing open the doors and walking straight into the fire.
I love.
Speaker 1
It yes.
Speaker 2
Honestly, sisters, we open this season at a moment in the world that feels anything but ordinary.
Something is happening, lots of things are happening, some things are shifting and we want to talk with you about it.
Speaker 1
Yeah, we really do.
There’s lots of shifts on different levels and we could take different ways of approaching this.
But we know we want to go deep with you today, and I’m sure that you’re feeling it, that urgency, the sense that there’s something really important, enormous, moving I don’t know about beneath the surface of life.
Because it’s right there.
It is right there with almost ready to break free or explode or something like that.
And no one is imagining this.
Speaker 2
No, no, you’re not imagining it.
And today we’re going to name it, explore it, and ask, is this a global spiritual awakening?
And what does that even mean for us right now in our lives?
Speaker 1
Yeah, Yep.
And you know, I’m going to tack that on too with if it’s global, I think we can all think of some people that maybe aren’t along, they’re not along for the ride.
So yeah, there’s real differences.
And like I said, we could spend a lot of time on this, but we’re going to go deep with, you know, 1 angle of it.
But before we do, let’s just come together, come together in community.
Take a few deep breaths, you know, wherever you are.
And if you’re on a walk or folding your laundry, our vacuuming and you’re listening to the through your headphones, just pause and feel really grounded to Mother Gaia.
Take a slow breath in and let it go.
Feel the the support of Mother Earth beneath your feet arriving here and making it to season 2.
And we appreciate that.
Yeah, it.
Speaker 2
Really means something not just to those of us who are here to have this experience, but energetically what we’re doing is by becoming more aware and raising our own frequencies that impacts the rest of the world because we are all one.
So Mary, I want to start with the phrase that we’re using from this episode, The Great Turning.
Understanding ‘The Great Turning’ and Liminal Space
Where does that come from and why does it feel so right?
For right now, Yeah.
Speaker 1
I mean, the, the, the, the general idea that that’s agreed upon is the term comes from the work of Joanna Macy.
She was an environmental activist, a Buddhist scholar.
She’s been, she has a lot of books and teachings about collective transformation.
For decades she’s been writing this, and she describes the great turning as a fundamental shift from what she calls the Industrial Growth Society, which I’m sure all of us can think of.
What that means is that it’s a concept that we’re going to dominate.
We’re going to pull as many resources out.
We’re separate from Mother Earth, we’re separate from the environment and that’s shifting to what or what she was advocating we need to shift to is more of a life sustaining civilization.
Speaker 2
And it’s always shocking to me how differently people see those two concepts, you know?
And I would imagine that if you’re listening to this podcast, then you are probably in the life sustaining civilization camp, which when I first heard the phrase the great Turning, I thought, yes, I mean, that is exactly what it feels like is trying to happen here.
Like something old and unsustainable is cracking wide open and something new is trying to be born.
I mean, that’s why we named New World women New World women, because a new world is really trying to be born.
Speaker 1
Yeah, and that process of cracking open, as we can always attest to, is not comfortable in some ways.
It’s not supposed to be.
And and and you know, we’ve talked about this in the other episodes.
It’s like we’re we’re here for a purpose.
We’ve come down and agreed to be here at this time.
We really look at this as with the shamanic perspective is more of a if, if we’re walking into a different dimension, that would be a threshold.
So a doorway, an opening in that space between the the the dimension here on Earth and moving into something new.
That walkway, that doorway is liminal space.
And people have heard me talk about that, but that’s why it gets a little wonky because of the fact we’re between these different dimensions or if people want to call them worlds.
But it’s really important to understand that we’re going through that and it’s going to be better on the other end.
Speaker 2
Yeah, And it can be really unsettling, too.
I mean, you know, I’ve heard people say things like, I don’t like this timeline that we’re living in, you know, because it feels so off center.
And women, women especially, feel these liminal times in their bodies.
We feel it in our bodies.
Don’t you think that’s true?
Like we feel it.
Speaker 1
I think so because it’s different frequencies.
I think what people are feeling in their bodies is the fact that they they they’re they’re the different threshold with the different dimensions are vibrating at a different frequency.
And that throws us off and makes us feel unsettled until we learn how to kind of ground ourself.
And but we do know how to hold space because actually women very intuitive, very much into magical abilities and we could call it in the history which whatever you were your and so we know what to do with that energy.
That’s very powerful.
It it is built into our biology to really feel that processes and then also move forward with it.
Speaker 2
Well, I’m very well sad.
And if any of you have been waking up at 2:00 in the morning or three in the morning and feeling some kind of existential something that might be exactly what’s happening to you.
You’re picking up on the frequency of a world in transformation.
And I, I was always fascinated when I started reading about how they’re, and I don’t know if this is true.
It seems like it could be that people will go to sleep right when it got dark outside and then they would wake up in the middle of the night and they would be up for a few hours and doing things in the middle of the night.
And then they would have what they called second sleep and then they would go back to sleep.
So that might be something fun to investigate.
What would that be like if we were like that, especially those of us who may wake up in the middle of the night?
Speaker 1
I didn’t wonder.
I think we could even call in on that topic.
And I think a lot of women would be like, I love it.
Let’s call it second sleep.
Speaker 2
Exactly.
Observing Spiritual Awakening and Our Soul’s Purpose
So let’s get a little more concrete, because sometimes when we talk about spiritual awakening, it can feel really abstract to people, and some people might not even understand exactly what it means.
So what are the signs and what are we actually observing?
Speaker 1
Well, from where I sit working with people in ceremony and my shamanic teachings in circles, my practice there that I think that people have really turned to they’re hungry, they’re seekers, they want more meaning people are really coming forward saying I want to know my soul’s purpose.
I want to be connected with light minded people.
I want a community, I want to make a difference.
So people are really leaning and they there’s also, of course, they don’t know how to people don’t know how to do this.
And so sometimes there’s this, they’re a little bit tentative with it, but I know, I know that there’s a great desire.
People want to know why did they come down?
Why did they volunteer for this time, this period in this instance?
And they want to fulfill their role.
That’s really, I think what it is.
They don’t want to, they don’t want to fall short.
And what I tell people is there’s you’re already fulfilling your role by seeking and by leaning in and by sharing with other people.
Speaker 2
Mm Hmm.
You brought up something really interesting.
This idea of choosing to come here at this time, a lot of people are not aware of that concept that we actually have a role in choosing whether we’re going to come to this planet and have this experience.
And then we have sole agreements that we or that we participate in.
And I, I think that’s what you’re expressing here is people are waking up to that and saying, what is my role?
What is my purpose?
And they are able to find that.
And when they do, there’s something, there’s greater peace that emerges.
And this is not just with individuals.
This is collective as well.
It’s almost as though we’re watching entire movements arise around the earth, around justice, around women’s power, around consciousness.
People are asking questions that previous generations were either too afraid to ask out loud or didn’t, weren’t even aware of thinking about.
And I am thinking about, you know, we are here in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and we have this occupation still going on in our state.
And in regard to watching entire movements arise, the beauty of the communities who have come together and are helping people who are still afraid to leave their homes due to this occupation, these are movements.
They sprung up overnight in some cases.
I think there was one woman who went within 24 hours, had this whole network of people helping one another.
And so it’s really happening in many different ways.
Speaker 1
So, yeah.
And so in many cases around the world and also here in the US, is that populations, particularly women, feel they can’t ask these questions.
They can’t push forward or challenge, you know, being a white woman that that just gives me such a, an advantage of privilege.
But even with that, it’s like being a woman is still second class.
And yeah, there’s just there’s a lot.
There’s there’s a lot of layers there.
Now, one thing too about with choosing to come down it, it, I just want to be clear or clarify.
It’s off the idea that you believe in reincarnation.
So if you don’t have that belief, then then that’s OK.
I mean, everybody can have their own beliefs.
But the idea is that we come down, learn lessons and clear a karma to to then hopefully be going back to source.
And many of us will all of us that are here have decided this is where you were going to come down.
And and if anybody wants to talk more about it, I love talking about this topic and reach out.
But even lots of thoughts that who you’re interacting with, who your family is, you’ve all picked.
So there’s a lot of responsibility there, thinking you picked all these beautiful blessings or challenges.
Speaker 2
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That is, that is a shocking notion for some people.
It was for me.
I remember greeting.
Speaker 1
Like Neil Donald.
Speaker 2
Walsh talked about that.
Oh my gosh, what was that 2530 years ago?
And I remember thinking, wow, I didn’t realize I had all of this responsibility and some of these things that have happened to me.
I actually chose these situations and these people.
Speaker 1
I want, I want to add one more thing.
I want to add one more thing.
When you come down, you have the idea of lessons and then you still have free will.
I don’t want people thinking, oh, I don’t have any no or free choice.
Some people like that terminology better.
And so you have these opportunities and then, then, then your personality of who you are here, you can go zig or zag and then that’s how your life unfolds.
So yes, about that.
So yeah, you know, you don’t have if you don’t like people and even if they’re in your, you agreed to come down with them, you have the choice that you don’t have to interact with them.
Speaker 2
Exactly.
Exactly.
Yeah, and I see every single thing, every experience, every relationship with a person as an opportunity for evolution.
I can always evolve from this.
I can always learn from this.
I can always grow from this.
I can always expand from this.
I can always be a fuller, more authentic version of myself because of this.
And we’ve heard they are we reacting or responding, you know, to certain things.
But anyway, you know, getting back to this idea of, you know, these movements arising and, you know, like a lot of times they didn’t arise in the past because we were afraid to say anything.
But now we’re asking ourselves the questions, who benefits from me being silent?
Who benefits from me playing small?
You know, and more and more women are answering that question with a resounding not me, not me.
Speaker 1
Yeah, yeah.
And looking at it through the lens, we’re interconnected with nature.
So it that that is that’s basically that’s an earth based spirituality.
If you think you’re we’re connected to nature and we are all one, then you’re following earth based spirituality and we are getting a lot of feedback from mother Earth as she, you know, I don’t want to say she’s angry, but it appears that way.
The flooding that’s going on right this second in Hawaii, the fires out of control, the Tornadoes, and all this is really signaling, in some ways, deep grief.
Or we’re taking too much from her.
We’re expecting too much.
And this is another way for us to be helping us wake up as well, because not only are we as humans responding and feeling in our body, but nature is responding and so we are actually seeing that as well.
Speaker 2
Yes, yes, yes, yeah.
I I love that you always bring back that idea of our connection and our oneness really with Mother Earth, because it really could be easy to look at all the chaos and the things that you mentioned and say, well, this is just collapse.
This is just darkness.
But we also have the capacity to hold things as a signal, you know, and like you had said, what are we going to do about this?
And this is just my own little adding this in here.
But like little things like if you’re able to compost your food, you know, if you’re able to recycle, you know, just little things like that.
If you are becoming more and more aware of the purchases you make, are these things that are absolutely necessary to your life or is it creating more and more clutter and things that we need to dispose of and all of that?
And those are just a few things.
I know it’s bigger than that.
I know that these corporations who are not paying attention, which are not paying attention to our Mother Earth, they are certainly doing damage.
But getting back to this idea of this awakening, I believe more and more individuals and corporations are awakening.
And I believe also that the companies that do the right thing for people and for the planet, they’re the ones that will really survive.
Speaker 1
And they will because also we could put focus on tacking on what you said is.
Purchase from them, cast them and and there’s one thing we know that corporations are in it for the money.
Sorry, there’s very few that aren’t, but we with our buying power do have that as well.
And that can help us if we you, if you happen to be going down the spiral and seeing all that darkness, then looking towards what can you do that can help you really see the light.
And that the turning point is really when the majority is really turning and raising their frequency, raising their vibration, doing what they can.
Because the if a group moves together, at least two people will can start a movement.
We can make a difference.
Speaker 2
Absolutely we can, Absolutely we can.
Shifting from Fear to a Collective ‘We’ Consciousness
And you know, the great turning implies that something is turning from one thing to another, and that’s what we’re talking about here.
And you know, let’s talk about fear.
I mean, that’s the other thing that’s happening right alongside the awakening and you know, the joy of finding others who are on the path of awakening.
There is a flood of fear.
There’s fear based news, fear based narratives, fear based politics, and it’s really hard sometimes to hear the signal through all of that noise.
Speaker 1
Yeah.
And the signal is a positive that you can make a difference that that a individual still knowing what’s going on.
We don’t want you to do what’s called spiritual bypass, just checking out, but that it’s important to understand that being in the space of fear, it’s a low frequency, a low vibration.
We don’t want to be there and we want to raise our frequent and vibration, but understanding what’s going on then the systems that help maintain or control the population want to keep us in that spiral of fear because it actually keeps some groups against each other disconnected, fighting and it keeps us in the the.
Speaker 2
It.
Speaker 1
Propels some people into a me consciousness because they’re in fear, which basically means I I have to I have to think about me.
It’s so hurtful out there.
I need to get what’s in it for me and protect me.
We’re in reality, we are in we all need to be looking at a we consciousness, which would be bringing up our frequency and vibration.
And we talked more about that in season 1, What’s me and we.
But if if people can get beyond that fear and branch off into a we mentality, you’re going to raise your frequency.
Speaker 2
Yeah, there’s no doubt about it.
And if you all haven’t listened to these past episodes, the one talking about me consciousness versus we consciousness and Season 1 is excellent.
And you can just go back and look through them and find it.
It’s a very foundational idea.
And Mary, you’re absolutely right.
We find ourselves in me consciousness when we are afraid that we’re not going to survive.
And a lot of the powers that be are using that fear to keep people playing small.
And people are very easily controlled when they’re in fear also.
And but if we’re feeling like really the fullness of our being and we are finding joy where we can, we are connecting, we are creating goodness where we can.
It’s it’s a whole different way of showing up in the world.
Speaker 1
It totally is.
And and you know, I don’t want to throw shade on anyone that’s that’s afraid of things because that they, they, they want you to, what we want to do encourage you is to break out of that is to really look beyond that.
And the way you do that is you stay grounded in your body and you do this tiny steps done as I already talked about.
But what are some tiny steps that can help you get more grounded and more feeling, more secure, and then branching out into more of a wee?
Speaker 2
Mentality and another thing I think can be really dangerous is staying in isolation because then we, I don’t know about anybody else, but when I find myself doing that, then I get this loop going in my head and you know, it feels like everything is hopeless.
And so, you know, find find one other person, find a group.
And if you say, how do I do that?
Mary, you have wonderful things that you offer in Zenith High.
I have wonderful things I can offer in new world women to come together with women who are exploring these kinds of things.
And we are holding one another during this time because this is not an easy time.
There is no question about that.
Speaker 1
And that’s why too is if you, if you shift to a we mentality, the expansion of that is that then you’re reaching out to other people and you’re in a group and you’re supporting and so on.
And I think that with a me mentality, it’s more constriction.
You’re more, you know, you’re just looking at for you and maybe your immediate family.
But yes, there’s lots of places to connect.
Speaker 2
Yeah.
And so you were saying, Mary, about stepping outside, putting your feet on the ground, and the earth is not afraid.
The trees are not afraid.
They’re in process.
Right?
And that process can regulate your nervous system.
I’ve heard you talk about that quite a bit.
Yes.
Yes.
Speaker 1
Nature is our greatest healers.
So you know, even in the winter time, if you bundle up, you know the saying there’s the weather out, there’s not too cold, it’s just you’re wearing the wrong outfit and but I don’t know about that, but we’re moving into spring so I don’t have to worry about that.
Yes is go outside, connect with nature.
You may want to remove any earbuds so that if there’s messages you’re hearing from the whisper of the trees or the rustle of the the leaves, you’re going to hear them.
And so that’s one thing too, sometimes when people are in nature, they’re not really contemplating because maybe they’re doing something else.
Now, of course, if you’re listening to our podcast, that’s totally fine.
But I want to encourage you to do it more as a way of listening to what, what is nature speaking to you?
And it’s subtle, subtle messages that really make a big life, Subtle messages that will help you lead to understanding your soul’s purpose, those subtle messages.
And you get those when you’re able to hear and to feel in your body.
Speaker 2
That is so true.
I was walking in my favorite area, which is down by the Mississippi River, and I remembered you saying that Mary, about like, don’t you know, take times where you’re not listening to a podcast or a book or whatever it might be and just listen to the sounds of nature, the birds chirping and, you know, by the Mississippi, you hear the water lapping up on the, the the shoreline when a boat goes by.
But anyway, I had a beautiful ringtone on my phone that I had just switched over for an alarm and it sounded very ethereal and very beautiful.
Well, I had my phone down tucked deep in my in my bag and didn’t realize that that’s what I was hearing.
So I’m walking through the trees and I’m like, I’m hearing a Symphony.
I really did think that there was some Symphony somewhere.
And of course, it was my beautiful ethereal ringtone.
Speaker 1
However, I do want to, I meant I’m just going to treat this as a teachable moment.
It went off in that moment and you were meant to think of that.
So it absolutely opportunities.
So.
Speaker 2
Absolutely, absolutely.
Yeah.
And you know, another thing with all of this, and we’ve talked about this so many times, and this is something, Mary, I know you and I practiced to the best of our ability, asking ourselves in any moment, what is my vibration right now?
Am I coming from love or am I coming from fear?
And not in a bypassing kind of way, like I’m just going to think positive and pretend everything is fine, but in a very real, honest way.
Because your frequency is going to determine how you’re perceiving the world around you.
And your perception also shapes what you believe is possible.
Speaker 1
Mm hmm Yep.
And remember that alignment, truth, love, compassion, caring and let’s let’s use the word that is been demonized.
Woke is higher frequency than fear every time, hands down.
If anybody says you’re woke, you should just say thank you.
Speaker 2
Yes, yeah, because woke means awake.
It’s like, hello, I think I want to be awake.
Speaker 1
Yeah.
Speaker 2
Right, right, exactly.
And you?
Speaker 1
All be woke.
Speaker 2
Yes, yes, yes.
Women as Lightworkers: Embracing Sacred Activism
I want to bring in the idea of sacred activism right now because I think that that is one of the things at the heart of the Great Turning.
It’s, it’s, you know, calling forth from us, especially women.
Speaker 1
Oh yeah, absolutely, yes.
Speaker 2
Because I, I think sometimes we get the message that being spiritual means being passive, like just not doing anything.
And obviously there are times where being quiet and holding a spiritual space is exactly what we’re supposed to be doing.
And we can also think, oh, I don’t want to make any waves.
You know, I mean, this coming weekend is a, a rally at the Capitol here in Saint Paul that I will be going.
It’s the, I think the fifth one that I have been to.
I go there to stand in peace, to show that I believe in creating a new world.
And you know, this whole idea of being spiritual means just not doing anything.
Speaker 1
And you know, I, I’d actually teach sacred activism in my shamanic program.
And in fact, actually that teaching is coming up, but it’s an idea that our spiritual practice and our actions in the world really need to be aligned too.
It’s like ethically and more what are your morals?
They’re not separate and we you want to live an authentic, compassionate life that you’re not hiding or withdrawing from the world, but you’re also being able to bring in that power into the world as well.
Make a difference.
Speaker 2
Yes, in a way that that aligns with you, you know, whatever that is for you, you know, for me, New World Women is part of my sacred activism.
Everything I do to help women remember their power, reclaim their worth, and rise, that’s my own spiritual practice in motion.
It’s not separate from my soul work.
It is my soul work.
Speaker 1
And that’s why we invite every woman listening to consider what is your sacred activism?
What where do you want to be active?
And there’s there’s lots of different ways to do it.
I consider it like on a continuum to writing letters, phone calls, supporting the neighbors to out there protesting and so on.
So it it can really be as subtle or it’s in more in the face, but it so it doesn’t have to look like you’re someone marching in the streets, which usually is what people think about when they think about activism.
It can be raising children that are consciously aware of things, that are compassionate, having a honest conversation with a friend who may be spiraling through the fear.
And it’s just, it’s I want to go back to it’s small actions that make up a beautiful life.
It’s small actions that make up that life.
Speaker 2
Yes, and you know, refusing to play small is a spiritual act, and I really do love that.
Let’s talk about this idea of women as lightworkers shaping this new world, this next era.
The role of women in this moment is huge because I feel it so strongly.
I hear it from women everywhere, and I’m hearing it from men, too.
I mean, there’s this whole thing where men are saying, I just wish women would take over.
But that’s not the answer either.
We need to work in harmony together, you know, knowing that, that being said, that women are, you know, very instrumental in this transformation.
We are central to it.
Speaker 1
Absolutely.
And actually anybody that’s gone to a spiritual workshop or conference know that it’s mostly women that are showing up because they’re feeling it in their bodies.
They’re we’re the ones raising the children, nieces, nephews.
And so many traditional cultures hold that it’s really the women who hold the memory of the earth, the healing, who when things fall apart, we know how to gather things and bring people into community.
Speaker 2
Yes.
Oh, I love that.
You’re right.
We feel it in our bodies.
We really, truly do.
And so we love a good story time, don’t we?
Do you have any story that speaks to this moment that we’re living in this, to this sense of something, something bigger moving through?
Your Soul Fire Spark: A Practice for Awakening
You know, I’ve kind of shared my stories as we go, but one with my that I can think of it is my mother.
She would be, she’s passed on and but before she did, she would talk to me and it was spiraling.
She would be spiraling from fear and, and that’s why I was able to talk about it.
I think that anything that people can do to really break that, that energetic mumble jumble in their brain where you’re spiraling out of control because you’re so afraid that something’s going to happen, that, you know, walking in nature, listening to some beautiful music, meditating.
That would be what I would want to share is the fact knowing you’re not alone, joining a community group where you’re feeling more supported.
That’s in the message that I want to really give with How can you move forward with this?
Speaker 2
I love that.
And I guess the very short story I would share is standing by the river with my feet in the sand and the sun.
You know, like just coming down and just seeing just a few tiny little green buds of leaves, knowing that after a brutally cold winter here in Minnesota, there is new life.
That’s what feels inspiring to me right now and ties back to this idea of a new world.
So here’s a a soul fire spark for you, which is something we’re going to try out.
It’s your practice until we meet again.
It’s a practice and invitation until we connect again.
Speaker 1
And it’s very simple.
This week, we invite you to ask yourself one question every morning.
Just one.
Write it down somewhere you’ll see it.
And here is the question.
Speaker 2
Drum roll.
What is awakening in me right now and how am I letting it flourish?
What is awakening in me right now and how am I letting it flourish?
Speaker 1
It’s that simple and but it’s also what may be one of the most important questions you’ll sit with all week and let it flourish.
By the way, let’s open up.
Speaker 2
Yes, because the Great Turning doesn’t begin out there somewhere.
It begins in here.
